One of the best things about Port Alberni is its convenient location. Locals call it the heart of Vancouver Island. With just a 1 hour drive from Nanaimo BC ferries you will enter into our west coast community. While your in the area, we want to make sure you know that there is plenty to see and do.

Of course, no trip to Port Alberni would be complete without exploring the local attractions. The hostel's website provides information about the nearby attractions, helping you plan your itinerary. Whether you're interested in hiking through the beautiful forests, exploring the local shops and restaurants, or taking part in water activities on the nearby lakes and rivers, there's something for every adventurer. Hikes & Walks

1. Hole in the wall - Casual.

2. Kitsuksis Dyke Trail - Paved loop for walking and biking.

3. The Lookout - A good up hill and a candy store at the bottom ;)

4. Log Train / Beaver Pond - Casual and closer to the hostel.

5. Alberni Inlet Trail - Many routes and timelines

6. Della Falls - The famous waterfall overnight hike via water taxi on great central lake.

7. Fossli Provincial Park Trail to Sproat Lake water access - You have to drive on a gravel road to get to the access point.

8. Stamp River Provincial Park - Walk along the river and check out the falls.

9. China Creek Falls - Park at a yellow gate and enjoy the falls.

Water Hang out spots:

1. Paper Mill Damn - This is park with access to the river.

2. Sproat Lake Provincial Park - The most beautiful and clean lake.

3. Waterfront Park - Inlet waterfront access with outdoor volleyball net, grassy area and a firepit (Check for fire bands).

4. Taylor Arm Beach - End of Sproat Lake towards Tofino.

8. Tube Stamp River!! - A ton of fun but no joke. This is a local's knowledge activity and there is danger to doing this but a lot of fun if you are aware of how to do it and when. There are certain safe access points and the level of the river matters! Larger rapids and falls exist on this river. Please do your research before you go! Ask the locals or reach out to us.
